I’ve learned one of the major weaknesses of shooting with the latest crop of HD capabale DSLRs is the poor audio quality. This little gizmo is my solution to that. It’s the Zoom H4N 4-channel digital audio recorder. It has dual XLR inputs, a built-in stereo mic, phantom power, metronome, tuner and so much more. And it records to SD cards. Can’t wait to put it through it’s paces!

Kelli’s mom generously treated Kelli and me to a night out at the restaurant of our choice – while she kept the kids. We opted for a romantic fondue dinner at The Melting Pot. After traditional Swiss cheese fondue for and appetizer, salads, an assortment if meats and sauces and a dessert of Yin-Yang milk and dark chocolate fondue, we were both so stuffed that any thought of after dinner drinks or coffee was quickly forgotten. It was a wonderful date, though, perfected by the company I kept.

Last night I was backing up the hundreds of photos on my iPhone.  As they loaded onto my Mac Pro, I was mesmerized by the dizzying array of thumbnails flashing past in Image Capture.  I decided to take every photo I’ve shot on the phone this year (actually, I only had from January 25th on this computer), and load each of them into Final Cut Pro as a single-frame footage file.  I then dropped the one-frame clips onto a timeline and set them against a piece of music I had on hand. After pre-composing the images into a single clip, I applied a stop-motion blur filter to smooth out the playback.

The images represented in the video not only include every photo that has made up the last 205 days of this project, but also pics never intended for this blog, misfires of the camera, the unedited versions of the project pics and intermediate edits from when I ran images through several apps to achieve the final look.

This Soviet beauty is part of a diorama at the Southern Museum of Flight depicting an historic defection by a North Korean MiG pilot during the Korean Conflict. I don’t think this is the actual MiG from that encounter, but the genuine article was inspected and flown by legendary aviator Chuck Yeager shortly after its capture.

The girls are off at an American Heritage Girls meeting. (It’s sort if the Presbyterian Girl Scouts. Don’t judge; it was predestined that she join.) Anyway, that means it’s guys’ night in: ABJBs (almond butter, jelly & banana sandwiches) for dinner, a little Wii tourney and Cosmic Bubble Bath. Doesn’t get much better than that!

I took this several days ago while sitting in the Taco Bell drive- thru, but I immediately decided it was a bad shot and chose not to use it in this project. The composition is awful, using neither symmetry nor the rule of thirds. It wants to be about the contrast between the tree, the cloud and the blue sky, but the light post and building at the bottom break that tension and clutter the shot. But for some reason, I keep coming back to it. Maybe I like it specifically because it is so bad.

On a side note, this probably my favorite lens/film combo in Hipstamatic.
