About
Wannabe Films is the nom de camera of writer, director and editor Wayne Franklin. Wayne's work emphasizes strong narrative through lines, complemented by striking visuals and an impeccable sense of timing. Wayne's approach to directing is informed by his background as an editor, resulting in efficiently planned shoots and abundant coverage -- often mentally editing his projects as the camera rolls.
While the majority of Wayne's career has been spent on commercial projects, recent years have marked a shift in direction toward the entertainment side of the business. His collaboration with first-time director Kris Wheeler has resulted in the feature documentary Bayou Country which will air nationally on public television soon. The two are also collaborating on a series of spin-off projects including performance DVDs for the band Dread Clampitt.
Wayne and Kris recently co-founded Self-Proclaimed Entertainment (SPE) to develop new documentary and unscripted television projects. Those include: Deadly Secrets of the Cold War, an investigative series about secret experiments, weapons tests and facilities built by governments under the guise of national security; The Amandas, a workplace reality series about a top-tier professional organizer; and Bubba and the Belle, a reality sit-com set in the world of competitive barbeque.
"My goal is to create subversively redemptive entertainment. It may look like run-of-the-mill entertainment on the surface, but there's a redeeming world-view at its core." -Wayne Franklin-
In 2007, Wayne followed the University of Alabama gymnastics team for an entire season. The resulting unaired pilot for All Around landed Wayne representation with former William Morris agent Carey Nelson Burch and a development relationship with Pink Sneakers Productions of Orlando. SPE and Pink Sneakers are collaborating on both Deadly Secrets and Amandas, as well as other projects.
