The big plan for my 40th birthday today was a family trip to the Tennessee Aquarium and then a nice seafood dinner somewhere. The aquarium half of the plan went off without a hitch. Then we headed back toward Birmingham for the dinner rather than staying late in Chattanooga.
We pulled over at a rest stop, and on our way out from the restroom, this cute little face joined Cooper and me. He didn’t have a collar, and the attendant told us he’d been there for a while and no one had claimed him. “If you want him, take him.” So we did.
He was well behaved on the ride home, stared out the van window waiting for me while I ran in Target to get food and a collar, and growled at some people who got too near our car in the lot – presumably protecting Kelli and the kids.
We toyed with the names Lucky and Forty, but the family decided on Jake without me. We’ll see how well he fits into the family dynamic, but so far he’s way better than the cancelled seafood dinner.
