After a busy start to the year with commercial work, we’ve been hard at work this Spring on a new project – a blog about Southern culture entitled Real Southern Men. If you haven’t had time to check it out, we highly recommend you do so now. You’ll be all the more entertained and enlightened for it. Later this summer, we plan to create a series of short films for the site.
Today we start working on a two-pronged approach for our next feature documentary, tentatively entitled Duke & the King. Combining live performances and good ol’ fashioned Southern storytelling from the incomparable Duke Bardwell, the film will tell a cautionary tale about his meteoric rise and fall as bass player for his childhood idol: Elvis Presley.
We start working on the edit today, but we’re also launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds we need to shoot additional footage and put a fine polish on the edit once we’re done. We’ll post information about the campaign soon.
In fact, we’ll be using Kickstarter for another compelling project entitled Red Skies at Night. A series of unexplained sightings over the forests of northern Georgia in the 1950s lead investigators and scientists to a much more frightening truth about a secretive nuclear facility that disappeared almost as quickly as it was built. What dangerous secrets lie in those Georgia woods today? That’s what we intend to find out.
That story will also serve as the backdrop of the pilot episode of a new documentary TV series we are developing with sister company Self-Proclaimed Entertainment. More news on that soon…
Finally, I am working on my return to the world of short films with the writing of a new experimental short entitled Leaf. The film will take the better part of the next year to go from concept to completion. I’ll post updates as I go.
